Poems of Woman Scream Nigeria 2019
A WOMAN’S PLIGHT
(Obumanu Gift Boma)
I saw a woman
Abused, beaten, tortured, maimed and
silenced
She kept quiet
Felt unimportant, hopeless, lifeless, and
in nothingness
agony, pain, sorrow served in bitterness.
I saw a woman
Who had no choice
No voice
No right
No laughter
No freedom
Lonesomely lonely and frustrated.
I saw a woman
Who misfortune and disaster
Were her sleeping bed
Punches and tears her only breakfast
She screams and wailed
To no avail
Then she built herself
From the broken fragments of her ordeals
She found within her wounded soul
The courage to stand
To speak
To appeal
To demand
To scream
For justice
For equality
For independent
For freedom
She screamed!

Love-Sent At
Twilight - Martins Deep
(i)
Mothers
voice comes at twilight like a wayfarer that has snaked through famished paths;
A
love-sent on snail back who set out at dawn stands before the cave that forbids
the laughter of home
(ii)
I'll
moan cuddled, she'll mourn cudgelled
by
the guilt of standing up too early on her knees beside my mat
(iii)
My
screams when pleasure is caught playing the masquerade
will
toll the knell in the old cathedral for prayers
The
moon those nights would hold a face as mother gazes heavenward telling of
prayers
that
lost their way to the ears of her God, and to my heart hedged about by hemp
...and
twin brooks of tears would dribble down her cheeks fuelling her hope
I'll
wish on the gash on my lashed back.

I Scream For Me -
Chikapen
A
woman’s world dims in the presence of men’s brutality
Her
dignity cracked and injured beyond endurance
Justice
eluding innocence in phases of appeals with indirect death sentences
An
immeasurable ill treatment of national and international standards
The
likes of Margret Ekpo, FunmilayoRansome-Kuti, Mary Slessor whose facelessness
became seen by the dignified people
Series
of attempts to quench these furnaces of barbaric mutilation, early marriage,
traditional widow’s rites and women trafficking
Indeed
these punctured my volcanic heart even as a tailless cow
Though
the blinded justice has suffocated some, yet I scream for me.
Woman And Much
More - Tehillah
Don't
you know you are a woman?
Label
of inferiority stamped from birth
Chastity
is feminine, so your virginity girth
Sacrifice
your name,body and reason
Culture,
tradition and society dictate my dance steps
I
know I am a woman and more
Cos
I womb the man and birth greatness
Suckle
the mighty and nurture the weak
I
know I am a woman and much more
My
womanhood holds no hood over my head
